The most important festival in Tengboche is called the Mani Rimdu. It consists of nine days of ceremonies and meditation (Drupchen). This is concluded by a special blessing ceremony given by Tengboche Rinpoche to the public and the world renowned Mask Dances performed by the monks at Tengboche Monastery

The following are the approximate dates of Mani Rimdu events this year based on the Tibetan lunar calendar. 12 Oct. 2007: Preparations including making the sand Mandala and Tormas (symbolic offerings made of coloured butter and barley flour)

19 Oct. 2007: Drupchen ceremonies start and continue uninterrupted for 8 days.
24 Oct. 2007: Monks practice dancing without masks
25 Oct. 2007: Giving the blessing to the general public (Wang)
26 Oct. 2007: Famous Mask Dances preformed by the monks in a special day long ceremony. Afterwards the Sherpa community sing and dance the whole night long.
27 Oct. 2007: Concluding Fire Puja.

6 Trek to Dingboche. Overnight camping.
7 Trek to Lobuche. Overnight camping.

Climb Kala Patter ( 5,545 m), back to Lobuche. Overnight camping.

9 Trek to Pangboche. Overnight camping.
10 Trek to Phortse. Overnight camping.

Trek to Khumjung. Overnight in lodge.

12 Trek to Phakding.
13 Trek to Lukla. Overnight at Lodge.
14 Fly to Kathmandu.

Grading

This trek is a mix of moderate and strenuous walks, some 6 to 8 hours a day. In order to enjoy this trek you need to be in good physical condition and exercise regularly.

The masked dance is an offering to various holy figures. Through their dancing, the priests protect, purify, and pray for good fortune and longevity on behalf of the multitudes.

The dance drama consists of fourteen scenes :

- Defender of the Faith
- Dance of the Drums
- Master of the Cemetery
- Old Man
- Guardians of the Dharma
- Dance of the Zur-ra
- Dance of the Dakini
- the Yogi and the Novice
- Dance of the Scavengers
- Dance of the Sword
- Dance of Spiritual Warfare
- Concluding Dance
