Everest Base Camp Clinic Fundraiser January 31, 2006

Everest ER Lecture at Montana State University, Bozeman on Jan 31

At 17,600 ft above sea level, set against a backdrop of the world's most imposing mountains, EBC doctors face enormous challenge operating the medical clinic on Mt Everest. High-altitude medical emergencies, logistically difficult helicopter evacuations, sudden violent storms, language disparities and personal discomfort are but a few of the obstacles encountered in running the first and only emergency room on the world's highest mountain. Yet the staff steps out of their comfort zone to volunteer for this duty every year since it's inception in 2003 -- why? Professional challenges, innovative practice, giving back to the Sherpa community are but a few of the answers illustrated in this lecture.

Free and open to the public on Tuesday, January 31st at 7pm in MSU's Strand Union Ballrooms, this multimedia presentation includes the stunning photography of a documentary titled "Everest ER," where the audience is given a glimpse of this extraordinary clinic that is changing the lives of people one minute at a time. Via videotape, the event will be introduced by long time supporter Tashi Tenzing, grandson of Mt Everest pioneer Tenzing Norgay. Through this riveting multimedia presentation Dr. Freer, and Everest Base Camp clinic supporters- renowned climbers and Everest summiteers Conrad Anker and Amy Bullard, producer and MSU film school graduates Sean and Brad McLain , documentary cameraman and Yosemite climbing ranger Lincoln Else and climber and EBC clinic patient Joe Hughes will make up a VIP panel who will comment on the importance of leadership through medical support of this remote location.

Key sponsors of this multimedia event are the ASMSU, MSU Leadership Institute, Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, Seattle Supersonics, K2 and the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. Donations accepted at the door will support the non-profit Everest Base Camp Medical Clinic and earn chances at a raffle of outdoor gear, original artwork, ski passes and more.

An opportunity to secure VIP seating, bid on silent auction items and meet the VIP panel before the event will be hosted at Montana AleWorks January 31st 5:00-6:30pm and attendance is by advance ticket sale only (limited to the first 50 registrants) at http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1276444 -- proceeds to benefit the EBC medical clinic.

  1. Anonymous Said,

The IOC has rejected the Tibet team application. IOC has stated that it is not in the position to decide about Tibetian team participation in Olympic Games!

    Great tops for everyone!

Mountaineering is my hobby and profession of walking, hiking, trekking and climbing up mountains. It is also sometimes known as alpinism, particularly in Europe.
